Brian Kennedy was born in Belfast in 1949 and received his Diploma and Higher Diploma in Fine Art from the Belfast College of Art. Since then he has exhibited widely in Europe, North America and Asia.

He was the Arts Council of Northern Ireland Fellow at the British School at Rome in 2002 and has held residencies in Europe, America and Australia. Travel has become an integral part of his work and he documents this photographically while at the same time making large-scale site-specific installations, video, performances and drawings.

As a practicing artist he has a strong interest in artist-led projects. Brian is a past chairperson of Belfastís Art and Research Exchange, a gallery and artistís resource centre. He is a board member of the Fire Station Artists Studios in Dublin and the Golden Thread Gallery Belfast. Brian has written widely about art both nationally and internationally and is a contributing editor of Circa art magazine. He sees making, curating and writing about art as one practice.
